"I'm a mother, I'm a lover, a chef, a referee. I'm a doctor, and a chauffeur seven days a week. I ain't asking for a medal, yeah I know you work too. I'd just like a little credit where credit is due. It's the hardest gig I've ever known. I work my fingers to the bone. Yeah the dishes and the diapers never stop. Lousy pay, there ain't no 401K. I know this may come as a shock, but this here's a full time job!"--Full Time Job sung by Gretchen Wilson

Can't Help Thinking About Me

I had a lot of very positive response to this post, Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all of your support and encouragement. It makes me really happy that it touched some of you and let you know you are not alone!

So, since some of you read the last post and might read this one, I issue you a challenge. Tell me 5 things you LIKE about yourself. They can be ANYTHING that you think is great about YOU! If you are reading this on Facebook, please feel free to post a comment. That is one thing I figured out a couple of days ago. We focus on the negative too much. Let's focus on something positive. The only ground rule is this: It MUST be about you!! We all know you love your family and friend and if you are a Christian, I am very glad that you love God. But, I want to know what other things you like about yourself. Make sense? List Away!

Here are mine to get you started!

1) I love my HEIGHT! That is one thing about myself that has never changed. I absolutely love being tall. My husband is tall and I've always had a thing for tall men. I enjoy being one of the highest people in the room.

2) I have a pretty good voice. Whether it is singing in the choir at church or my pretty much once a year trip to the Neon Cactus to see Bruce Barker, I LOVE getting up and sharing my vocal abilities with others. There may be a pretty big difference between "Silent Night" and "Me & Bobby McGee", but I love singing both with all my heart!

3) I am strong. I didn't appreciate this when I was younger. It has taken me being an adult to learn that it is a cool thing for a woman to be strong. I love that I can hold my own in the weight room.

4) I really am glad I have an ability to easily make friends. This is something that has always come easily to me. My dad used to joke that we could go anywhere I would know someone. He was almost proven right when on two different family trips, one to Cedar Point and one to Disney World, we ran into someone I knew. I know that I am very lucky in this, as not everyone has this gift. It is one I treasure!

5) I really love that I have an artistic side. I know I mentioned the singing, but this goes beyond that. I knit and I write and I love all things "artsy". I really enjoy writing this blog when I have time, but I also write a lot on my own. One day I really hope to have a novel published. Obviously, most of you know how much I knit. It is one of those skills I am SO glad I learned and hope and pray I never get arthritis in my hands!

So, there are mine. What are yours? There is no shame about being proud of yourself and liking things about yourself. I love this quote, it means a lot to me and I hope you will take something from it!

"When you give yourself credit for something, when you take pride in what you do, that doesn't mean you think you're better than someone else. It just means that you value who you are and you send that message to the world." -Jillian Michaels.

Just FYI: "Can't Help Thinking About Me" is a song written by David Bowie in 1965 and released as a single under the name David Bowie & the Lower Third. This was the first single released after he changed his name from David Jones to David Bowie. The single was the first David Bowie record to be released in the US.

Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

I have decided that I need to make some changes in my perspective of myself. I don't think it is a secret that I am working really hard in the gym (this past week excluded, but give me a break, I have had a kidney stone). I have been trying to watch my diet. I try to be a kind person, a good mother, a great wife, and a constantly learning child of God. But I realized something about myself yesterday. I was determining my self-worth by my appearance. I can not even begin to express how much this bothers me. I have 2 daughters and I do NOT want them to determine their self-worth by the way they look. I have a baby boy that I do NOT want to him view a woman's self-worth solely based on her appearance. I know that if I am viewing myself this way, then I am just teaching them that it is appropriate. This is absolutely NOT okay.

Yesterday, I completely broke down on my mom. I started crying and told her how I was feeling and the I just was so tired of stressing about how I looked and what I weighed and I just don't understand why it had to be this difficult. She lovingly reminded me that I am a kind person, a wonderful mother, a good wife, a great daughter and granddaughter, and that everyone likes me (these are her words, not mine). My mom is a pretty blunt individual. She doesn't lie. If she feels that way, I know that that was how she felt. Well, I then had a 2 hour drive home while the kids watched movies and slept to think to myself about what I was doing. I thought about my diet, my relationships, and myself. I came to these conclusions:

My diet is just not working. I think the biggest problem is that I am working out so much and I am just NOT getting enough food following Weight Watchers. Also, to be honest, I HATE counting all the time. I have become obsessive about it. And I find ways to cheat. I don't like that because then I feel badly about myself. SO, it is just not working. I couldn't sleep last night once I got home. I broke out my South Beach Diet books and gave them a read through. I remember why I LOVED the SBD. It was easy, I didn't have to count anything, it got rid of the belly fat us moms have problem with, and I got to eat meat and eggs. Those are two of my favorite things and I miss them. I can also drink milk, which I love. The only things I really missed on it were pasta and sweets, but you just find other ways to eat them. I decided that I am going back to it. So, starting tomorrow (I have to get to the store tonight to pick up some things!), I will be back on it and I am really excited. Besides, it could be my body needs a jolt because it is just used to the Weight Watchers and the food I eat on it.

My relationships don't really need work, but I really don't think that I enjoy them as much as I should. I have an amazing husband, incredible kids, and wonderful friends. I need to revel in them, enjoy the time I spend with them more. And although my relationship with God has improved SO much, it can always improve and I am very excited to work on this. I am using the Lenten season to help me with this.

Now myself, I think my view on it could use some work. I need to give myself some slack. I am what I am (Did anyone read that as Popeye? Because I certainly said it in my head as Popeye!). I need to learn that that is OK and good enough. Not that I can't improve, but I need to be happy with what I have and what I am. I am NEVER going to be a size 2. It is just not going to happen. I am never even going to look like my mom. I am built like my dad, I just need to get over it and be happy with who I am. I am never going to be a genius, I'm just not. I am never going to be the world's best cook. I am most likely never going to be a marathon runner. I have the goals I have and those goals are OK. I might be a knitwear designer one day. I might be a published author one day. I might be a size 8 one day. I hopefully will be able to run a 10K one day. I will enjoy my friends as we transition together from mommy, to mother, to mother-in-law, to grandmother, and hopefully great-grandmother. I will hopefully watch my children graduate and then eventually walk down the aisle toward the love of their life. I will hopefully enjoy my grandchildren the way I know my parents enjoy theirs. I will hold hands with my amazing husband until the day God calls one of us home. I don't have to be perfect. I'm the best that I am. To quote my mother, "I am a kind person, a wonderful mother, a good wife, a great daughter and granddaughter, and that everyone likes me."

To anyone that reads this, I am going to pay this thinking forward. Be happy with who you are. You are wonderful! God loves you. Your family loves you. Learn to love yourself!

With love,
Theresa

My Pet Peeves

This may not be the most positive post in the world, but it is one I have been running through my mind the past few days. I decided to go ahead and write it. This is my Top Ten Pet Peeves!

10. Yarn skeins/balls that have a knot in them where the manufacturer/ spinner broke the yarn and simply tied it back together. This is especially annoying when it is a yarn that has a repeating colorway.

9. When my 5 year old doesn't flush the toilet, especially after going Number 2. Seriously, SO gross!

8. Sponge Bob Square Pants & Miley Cyrus...enough said I think.

7. When the plastic bag rips while carrying groceries, and it never fails that that bag contains the pickle jar. Does anyone else's heart stop just briefly as they grab the bag to make sure the pickle jar doesn't fall? I guess this just means I should switch to fabric bags.

6. Having to turn socks right side out after doing laundry. Now I understand why my mom would get mad at me for leaving them inside-out. Sorry Mom!

5. Walking through the house and stepping on Cheerios. They inevitably stick to the bottom of my foot and I carry them elsewhere throughout the house. It doesn't matter how often I vacuum, they are everywhere!

4. Walking out of the house, thinking I look at least decent. Then I get to where I am going and look down and see a big slime of snot all over. GROSS!

3. People that cut me off in the grocery store. I try to pay as much attention as I can while shopping to other people around me. If you cut me off, at least take the one second it would take to say, "Oh, I'm sorry." Do NOT just stare at me like, "What the hell are you looking at?". Really, what happened to old fashioned common courtesy?

2. When you smile at someone and they do not even acknowledge you. This drives me insane!! Even if you are having a bad day, how difficult is it to just tip your head as if to say, "Yeah, I see you. Thanks for the smile. I'm not having a great day, but I appreciate your trying to make it better."?

1. People that ask me, "What do you do all day?" or "You don't work?" or another question of that nature when they find out I am a Stay At Home Mom. This seriously pisses me off. Just because I do not bring in an income doesn't mean that being a Stay At Home Mom isn't a MAJOR job.

Okay, I feel better now! What about you, what are YOUR pet peeves?

Random Things About Me!

Hi all! I have been sitting here trying to figure out what to blog about today. I was coming up EMPTY!! And I do mean EMPTY! So, I am going to cheat and tell you 10 things about myself. I have already done 25 of them that you can read here.

1. I LOVE Janis Joplin!! Seriously, for a woman whose voice really was not very musical, she sure could wail! (I am not even going to tell you how many times I had to type wail to get it spelled right!) And speaking of...

2. I am a HORRIBLE speller! (Have to add that after I hit spell check, I discovered I had spelled Horrible wrong!) Thank goodness for spell check! I was a great student in school and it was a good thing I have a good memory and could memorize things because if I don't pay attention, I can't spell crap! C-R-A-P...huh, I guess I can! :)

3. I have become a HUGE Sci-Fi Nerd! I'm not sure when this happened, but I just can't get enough Star Trek, Star Wars, and the like. Maybe that is why I like the whole vampire/supernatural genre so much too. My name is Theresa and I am a nerd!

4. I am a Pack Rat! Now, I don't think you will see me on "Hoarders" any time soon, but I really am. It comes honest, both grandmothers are/were. I keep the most random things too, you never know when you might need them! I am trying to do better, but I have the hardest time throwing things away!

5. I can type VERY fast! My mom was a typing teacher so I learned how to type at an early age. This was a HUGE blessing in college as it helped when having to type papers in the wee hours of the mornings! Also, occasionally paid for some beer when I typed papers for others.

6. I get super-duper excited when I see that someone has sent me a Facebook message or left me a comment on here. I mean, probably stupid excited! Want to guess how happy I am when I get snail mail?!?

7. I have all these plans of crafts that I want to do, things I want to make, new things I want to try. How much do I get done? Not much...3 kids take a lot of my free time. Geez. :)

8. I took piano lessons from the time I was about 5 or 6 until I was 12 or 13 (I don't really remember exactly when I started or finished, but it was about 7 years!). I used to be really good. I haven't played in a long time and could probably till read the music just fine, but I have a feeling it would take me a while to get through any songs. L really wants to learn. Whenever the time comes that we build a bigger house, the first thing I want to put in is a piano. I'll probably just go with a standing one, but would love a Grand Piano! Oh to dream!!

9. I've never really gotten into Halloween. I don't know why...I LOVE to dress up. I would love to act You would think that would be a natural transition!

10. The Disney Princesses annoy the crap out of me! I realize in this house, my two darling daughters would say that is blasphemous, but seriously! All this having to be rescued by a man...it gets old! The only one that doesn't drive me completely up a wall is Mulan, mainly because she does most of the rescuing! That said, I will sit down and watch them though. At least the songs are enjoyable! :)

There you go. 10 things you maybe didn't know about me! Now, aren't you glad you didn't ask and now know me JUST a LITTLE better?

Have a great weekend everyone! I get to wear my sexy black dress and go out with my sexy husband (we have a wedding to go to!). I can't wait! Maybe I'll try and get some pictures, assuming I can get E to stand still for them!

With Love,
Theresa

Thursday Five

MannLand5 has some great meme's. I am joining in on another today. I am excited! Check her out!!

Thursday Five

I am BLESSED to have such an amazing husband that works so hard so I can stay home with our children. He loves me for me and makes me feel sexy and beautiful no matter what I look like!

I am DELIGHTED that J is starting to say more words. She actually said "Up Please" today at the park when she wanted to get into the swing!!

I am JOYOUS that I am getting so much support in my weight loss adventure.

I am CHEERFUL that L is starting to take an interest in cooking and helping get things ready for dinner.

I am JOLLY that I got a full night's sleep last night. Oddly, I am even more tired today. Weird!

Have a great one!

Getting To Know You...

I found this at a MannLand5, a blog I like to read. I hope you enjoy learning some more about me!

Getting to know YOU

1. If a person has a booger in their nose. and you can see it, do you tell them?
It depends on who the person is. If it is someone I know, then yes. If it is a stranger, than probably not. I might try and do the discreet rub by nose and try and get them to realize it though!

2. What are you passionate about?
Well, my family of course. But other than that, Knitting. If you have read this blog at all, you probably already know that.

3. How long have you been blogging?
I really do not know the answer to that. I have had a website of sorts since 2005. I started this blog a year ago, but didn't do as much as I wanted until recently.

4. What is your favorite "summer" drink?
Beer or mojitos or lemonade.

5. What is your favorite type of music?
Country or Classic Rock. I really like just about anything except gangsta' rap. It is just so violent. Not my idea of good tunage!

6. Something I do before I go to bed is......?
Play on my BlackBerry. I am a dork.

7. My Summer vacation plans are...?
Probably visit my parents a couple of times and go to see my BIL in tractor pulls. Nothing too exciting!

8. My favorite must have, can't live without, beauty product is?
Tinted moisturizer...if nothing else, I have to have that!!

Have a great Sunday!
With Love,
Theresa

Things I've Come To Realize

I found this on one of my new favorite blogs to read, This Chihuahua Bites. I hope that you enjoy learning a little more about mt. If you use this meme (anyone know why they are called this? Because you learn more about "meme" perhaps?), leave me a link so I can check it out!!

I’ve come to realize that my body is strong, but hour-glass shaped. It has taken me a long time to accept that, but I am and now I'm TRYING to dress for that shape.
I’ve come to realize that my job is so unbelievably difficult. I wish someone would have sat me down and said, "Look, this job can really suck! Being a mom is NOT easy and anyone who tells you it is is lying."
I’ve come to realize that when I’m driving
I look in my rear view mirror probably way more than I should, but I want to make sure the girls aren't killing each other!
I’ve come to realize that I need a night out every now and then! Really need a night out!
I’ve come to realize that I have lost myself, but I am determined to find me!! It is difficult NOT to lose yourself when you become a Mom. Your needs automatically become a back seat and it is a struggle to find time for those things that make you happy.
I’ve come to realize that I hate it when my daughters do not share. J screams bloody murder and L makes this weird guttural noise. I've started taking things away when they can't share them just because I can't stand those noises!
I’ve come to realize that if I’m drunk I become VERY "friendly"!!! ;)
I’ve come to realize that money
is always on the lacking side and it sucks!
I’ve come to realize that certain people have no respect for anything. There are so many murders and crimes against man-kind that it make me very sad.
I’ve come to realize that I’ll always remember singing on the stage at the Grand Ol' Opry. There was no audience (except for the tour group that I was with), but what an experience!
I’ve come to realize that my sibling(s)
have come in the form of my cousins, amazing In-Laws and wonderful friends. As an only child, I had to find siblings in other forms. I have been very lucky to find some amazing ones!
I’ve come to realize that my mom is an incredible grandma! She didn't think she would be a good one, she is a great one!
I’ve come to realize that my cell phone is addicting! I love you my wonderful Blackberry! I would have never thought I would become a "texter", but I am! ;)
I’ve come to realize that when I woke up this morning, I was SO not ready to get up, but already running WAY late!
I’ve come to realize that last night before I went to sleep, my eyes were shutting before I even laid down!
I’ve come to realize that right now I am thinking I need to go pack the girls to go to grandma's!
I’ve come to realize that my dad is incredible!! We've always been close, but have become even closer a I have become an adult. He taught me to drink Mr. Jack Daniels and encouraged my love of reading and music. Today is his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAPPY GEORGE!!!!
I’ve come to realize that when I get on Facebook, I get sucked in!!
I’ve come to realize that today has gone too fast. I've been going since waking up. Looking forward to sitting down to rest for longer than it has taken me to type this.
I’ve come to realize that tonight should be so much fun. We get to hang out with some friends of ours that we rarely see!
I’ve come to realize that tomorrow comes too fast!
I’ve come to realize that I really want the best I can give my children, whether it is experiences, education, or needs. I want them to have the best I can give them.
I’ve come to realize that the person mostly likely to repost this is Miss Carli.
I’ve come to realize that life goes by way too fast and way too slow all at the same time!
I’ve come to realize that this weekend should be a good experience for E. He is running his 4th 1/2 marathon!
I’ve realized the best music to listen to when I am upset is
My lady Janis Joplin or a little Black Crowes.
I’ve come to realize that my friends help keep me sane (or at least some semblance of it!). They are wonderful and I am so very blessed to have the wonderful friends that I do. I love you all!
I’ve come to realize that this year is going by VERY fast. Is it really almost June?!?!?
I’ve come to realize that my husband is an amazing man. I love him so much. He is my rock and my partner. He makes me laugh and he makes me think. He challenges me to be a better person, wife, and mother. I love him so very much and I thank God so much that he loves me.
I’ve come to realize that maybe just maybe I might get to sleep through the night again at some point!
I’ve come to realize that I love my children with a fierceness I would not have thought possible.
I’ve come to realize that I don’t understand
how some people can be so cruel to their children. Those people should not be parents.
I’ve come to realize my past is over. I need to do a better job of letting go of the things I regret.
I’ve come to realize that parties are fun but quite a pain. I do love to throw them though. I'm thinking I might have to get around and have one soon.
I’ve come to realize that my life may seem like the same thing day in and day out, but I don't know that I would have it any different. I really do love my life: spit-up, screaming babies, poopy diapers, and all.

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
With Love,
Theresa

What Would You Be? (Free For All Friday!)

Happy Friday! It is still so beautiful outside! I shouldn't be sitting at the computer! Oh well, I have the doors and windows open and am listening to the birds outside and the BEAUTIFUL singing of J to "ELMO'S World". Because it is Friday and it has been a long week, I have nothing new to come up with, but saw this on a fellow blogger's site (Creative Attempts...check her out, she is FANTASTIC!) and thought it was a different take on the about me kind of thing. So, here you go!

What Would You Be?

If I were a month I’d be September.
If I were a day I’d be Saturday.
If I were a time of day I’d be evening.
If I were a planet I’d be Venus.
If I were a sea animal I’d be a Sea horse.
If I were a direction I’d be North-east.
If I were a piece of furniture I’d be a comfy couch.
If I were a liquid I’d be RUM! ;)
If I were a gem stone I’d be a peridot.
If I were a tree I’d be a red wood.
If I were a tool I’d be a monkey wrench.
If I were a flower I’d be a gerber daisy.
If I were an element of weather I’d be the sunshine.
If I were a musical instrument I’d be a piano.
If I were a color I'd be bright grass green.
If I were an emotion I’d be joy.
If I were a fruit I’d be a star fruit.
If I were a sound I’d be children's giggles.
If I were an element I'd be oxygen.
If I were a car I’d be a Dodge Viper.
If I were a food I’d be my grandma's perogies.
If I were a place I’d be the Grand Ol' Opry.
If I were a material I'd be velvet.
If I were a taste I’d be tart.
If I were a scent I’d be clean cotton.
If I were a body part I’d be legs.
If I were a facial expression I'd be a big toothy grin.
If I were a song I’d be sung by Janis Joplin.
If I were a bird I'd be a flamingo.
If I were a gift I'd be a knitted shawl.
If I were a street I'd be in San Fransisco.
If I were a city I'd be Nashville, TN.
If I were a door I'd be metal so kids could hang their pictures on me.
If I were a pair of shoes I’d be comfy, but HOT!!!

If you want me to explain any, just leave a comment. Till next week! Have a wonderful Easter!!

Theresa

My Dirty Little Christmas Secret!

Yes, I have a Christmas secret! I LOVE cheesy Christmas movies! I'm not talking about ones like "White Christmas" or "Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer" (although I DO love it!) I'm talking about the ones that are especially made for TV like on ABC Family. As I type this I have "Santa Baby 2: Santa Maybe" playing. They just make me laugh and I totally tear up at the inevitable cheesy ending! I may not have much Christmas spirit this year, but those always make me a little Jollier! :) Sometimes don't you just wish life could always have the happy ending! I sure do!
I have so much I want to write about today, but not enough time. I will try and get more time later and hopefully I can write some more!
Love,
Theresa
